“At CTCA, I get to work alongside some very good physicians who care for patients with cancer,” says Dr. Kendal Mitchell, a pulmonologist at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Mitchell earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida, where she earned a Dedication to Primary Care Award in Internal Medicine.
She then completed an internal medicine residency, followed by a pulmonary medicine fellowship, at Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa. During her residency, she earned the D.O. Excellence in Internal Medicine Award.
Dr. Mitchell holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, where she graduated cum laude. She has volunteered in hospice, women’s shelter, and adult day care settings.
Since joining CTCA in July 2013, Dr. Mitchell says she appreciates the feeling of community within the hospital. “At CTCA, patients are cared for in a more personal way, not just addressing their medical issues. From the nurses to administration to security, I see people who are so eager to help get things done,” she says.
She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Mitchell is originally from Florida. She moved to Oklahoma for her residency, during which she met her fiancé, John, who is an internal medicine physician. She enjoys anything that involves water, including boating, water-skiing and scuba diving. She and her fiancé also love going to Drillers baseball games in the summer.
