Janet Cheek, DO, FACOI

Southwestern Regional Medical Center

"My approach to patient care is analytical, but my approach toward patients is open, loving and supportive. They know that I always have their best interest at heart. They know I will also have the answer, or seek the answer if I don’t know it. And they know that I don’t usually give up until I have an answer."

Dr. Janet Cheek joined the integrated team of care providers at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in September 2009. She currently serves as a hospitalist.

"This is such a different environment compared to other medical centers I’ve been to," says Dr. Cheek. "And, my own philosophy of patient care fits the philosophy and mission behind this hospital."

Dr. Cheek earned an osteopathic medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she also completed a post-baccalaureate program.

Board-certified in osteopathic internal medicine, Dr. Cheek completed an internship and residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York.

"There is a sense of hope and support here," says Dr. Cheek. "There’s a sense that no matter how far away you travel to receive care at CTCA®, once you’re here, you’re family. And, you’re never alone. You always have support, and not just from our stakeholders, but also from other patients, caregivers and family members.”

In 2000, Dr. Cheek received the Mary E. Hitchcock, D.O. Memorial Award for Commitment to Osteopathic Principles. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Internists and the American Medical Association, and in 2015, she was appointed as a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists.

Dr. Cheek says more than anything, what she enjoys about working for CTCA is the patients and support.

“The support staff is absolutely amazing here. I’ve never seen a nursing staff go above and beyond, bending over backwards for the patients, and physicians, when needed," says Dr. Cheek. "If patients’ requests seem to be beyond the norm, I’ve seen people rally together to give them what they need or want.”
