Terra Phillips hails from Texas, where she attended both the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and Texas A&M University.
She graduated from UTMB in Galveston with a master’s degree in physician assistant studies. While there, Phillips underwent extensive, real-world training in a number of medical practices, including emergency medicine, endocrinology, cardiovascular surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and inpatient geriatrics. She acquired this experience in a series of student rotations at a number of medical facilities in the Galveston-Houston metropolitan area, including UTMB’s John Sealy Hospital and Stark Diabetes Center. Phillips made the dean’s list at UTMB and received an academic excellence scholarship.
Prior to her years at UTMB, Phillips studied biomedical science at Texas A&M, where she obtained a bachelor’s of science degree.
Before joining CTCA, Phillips assisted hematology and oncology patients for Texas Cancer Associates. Her many responsibilities included reviewing lab findings, pathology and imaging for all new patients; acquiring patients’ medical histories and performing physical exams; following up with returning patients undergoing chemotherapy; and, coordinating radiation treatments.
Phillips is certified as a physician assistant (PA) by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. She is also certified to provide basic life support and advanced cardiac life support.
She has received two awards from the American Cancer Society, in addition to an award for community involvement from Texas Children’s Hospital.
