Dr. Jeffrey M. Calava is an anesthesiologist specializing in pain management at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center. With his compassion, dedication to quality, and extensive knowledge and expertise in the latest pain management techniques available, Dr. Calava strives to ensure that his patients receive the very best care.
Dr. Calava earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.
In addition, Dr. Calava completed a residency in anesthesiology, with subspecialty clinical training in pain management, at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. He also completed a fellowship in oncology pain management at the University of Texas/MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where he was also a junior faculty associate in pain, symptom management and anesthesiology.
Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Calava served as the CEO and Medical Director of the Specialty Pain Management Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has published numerous studies on anesthesia and pain management. He is also certified by both the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and the American Academy of Pain Management.
Dr. Calava describes CTCA as “one of the rare cancer centers in the United States that treats pain seriously.” This distinction, he says, played a major role in his decision to practice medicine here.
Of his work at CTCA, Dr. Calava says he finds it extremely rewarding to see the improvement in his patients’ outlook on life once they begin the appropriate pain management program.
