Daniel Kellman, a naturopathic clinician at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center (Southwestern), is committed to helping patients fight cancer by strengthening the body’s ability to heal itself, and supporting the whole person. “We address patient needs and concerns by offering solutions naturopathically, to decrease side effects of conventional treatment and teach long-term prevention strategies,” says Kellman, who is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO).

Kellman is a graduate of the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. He has been in practice since 1998 and has worked in a variety of healthcare scenarios. Kellman’s clinical work has been in integrative team practices, working alongside medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, naturopathic physicians, chiropractors, nurses and massage therapists.

Kellman’s experience includes the modalities of general naturopathic family practice, pain management, advanced immunology and integrative cancer care. He has also had many years of herbal, homeopathic, nutritional and pharmaceutical-prescribing experience. In addition, Kellman has lectured on a variety of health topics and has mentored naturopathic medical students.

A staff naturopath at CTCA since 2006, Kellman works alongside oncologists, nutritionists, psychologists, and his naturopathic colleagues as a vital part of the integrative medicine model.

Kellman says he appreciates being able to provide individualized attention to patients at CTCA. He says he and his team are able to see patients as inpatients, outpatients, and even while they are receiving chemotherapy in the Infusion Center. He is also actively involved in developing new research ideas in collaboration with the oncology and research departments at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Kellman subscribes to the philosophy of “physician heal thyself.” He says he strives to maintain balance and healthy living so he can be an example for his patients, family and friends. He is a good listener, has an investigative and scientific mind, and is compassionate.

Kellman is an elected board member of the Oncology Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. He is also a member of the California Naturopathic Doctors Association, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Society for Integrative Oncology.

Some background information…

Kellman grew up in a medical family, with his father an MD and his mother a nurse midwife and nurse practitioner. He says he was influenced by both of his parents in their adherence to eating organic food fresh from the garden and living close to nature.

His father, Dr. Neil Kellman, was practicing acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutritional counseling long before it became popular. Kellman’s father also spent several years in the West Indies practicing tropical medicine and humanitarian work. Kellman’s says his fondest memories of his father were the times when he accompanied him on house calls. His father carried the traditional black doctor’s bag and had a cool and collected way of handling patients in distress.

Kellman says he always knew he wanted to be a doctor. When he discovered that he could become a licensed naturopathic physician, this path seemed to suit his background and his passions. Today, Kellman is married with a one-year-old son. He enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, hiking, biking and enjoying the great outdoors.
