Radiation Oncologist Dr. William Goad at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center

For Dr. William Goad, a board-certified radiation oncologist, it was the integrated model of care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) that drew him to our network of cancer hospitals’ location in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Goad says, “Integrated medicine is very difficult to provide in a community hospital setting, where doctors who practice different specialties may practice at several hospitals in addition to their office. Oftentimes, a patient’s evaluation or management may be delayed to coordinate care.”

“At CTCA, there’s truly a collaborative effort between the different cancer care providers,” he emphasizes. “And with all of the diagnostic tools and cancer treatments available in one location—under one roof—the structure of the hospital facilitates that patients can come in and be seen quickly and efficiently by whichever doctor they need to see.”

Dr. Goad joined CTCA in May 2011, after serving cancer patients at hospitals in Oklahoma City for several years. Most recently, he served as medical director of a proton therapy center.

Dr. Goad says of his position at CTCA, “One of the things I have the luxury of doing, and that gives me great joy, is sitting down with my patients, taking their medical history and explaining their tests, radiation treatment options and other information about their disease to them.”

“Many patients come in with a fear of radiation,” he notes. “But we help ease that fear by educating them about radiation therapy and its benefits. We also talk to them about its potential side effects, which we proactively try to manage and minimize.”

Dr. Goad earned a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma, where he also completed an internal medicine internship. He then completed a radiation oncology residency and fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

Before pursuing a medical degree, Dr. Goad obtained a bachelor’s of science degree from Baylor University. He also completed post-graduate studies in pharmacology and biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Goad is a member of many professional associations, including the American College of Radiation Oncology, American College of Radiology and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Goad has spent many years participating in showing and breeding purebred dogs and has championed over 20 AKC registered champion dogs. He also enjoys entertaining friends, cooking, fishing, and everything about the opera.
