“I have learned a lot about endurance and never giving up from patients and their families here at CTCA,” says Dr. Monicah Gichinga, a hospitalist at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Gichinga earned a medical degree from the University of Nairobi School of Medicine in Kenya. In 2000, she moved to the United States and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Gichinga also holds certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).
Since completing her post-graduate training, Dr. Gichinga has held various internal medicine positions in Tulsa. Most recently, she served as a hospitalist at Hillcrest Medical Center. Before then, Dr. Gichinga served as an internist at Springer Clinic. She has also been involved in several research projects and presentations over the years.
Dr. Gichinga’s interest in oncology initially brought her to CTCA in 2002. At that time, she joined the Southwestern team as an internal medicine resident. She returned in May 2008 to serve as a full-time hospitalist.
“What I enjoy most about working at CTCA is the people, warm environment and nice atmosphere. Everybody’s really friendly, and things get done in a timely manner,” says Dr. Gichinga. She adds, “CTCA actually cares for the patients, and employees and goes to great lengths to show it.”
Dr. Gichinga is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Oklahoma State Medical Association, and the Oklahoma Society of Internal Medicine.
When she is not at work, Dr. Gichinga enjoys playing guitar and piano and reading John Grisham novels.
