“I love being part of a dedicated team that fights cancer with patients,” says Misty Anderson, an advanced registered nurse practitioner at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southwestern Regional Medical Center.

Anderson says the philosophy of CTCA—the Mother Standard® of care—compelled her to join the hospital in February 2010. She says not only are CTCA patients treated like family, but the staff as well.

She adds, “The integrated approach to patient care, leading-edge technology and innovative therapies truly makes it the best cancer hospital to work for.”

Among her responsibilities as a nurse practitioner, Anderson obtains patients’ medical histories; performs physical examinations; orders and interprets lab and imaging tests; writes orders for chemotherapy; and, prescribes medication to treat symptoms and side effects. She also helps coordinate the care of patients while they are at home.

Anderson earned a master of science degree in nursing from the University of Oklahoma–Tulsa. She completed a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Langston University, also in Tulsa.

Previously, Anderson worked as a nurse practitioner in emergency and urgent care medicine. She has also been an emergency department nurse and an oncology nurse.

She is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She also holds certifications in advanced cardiac life support and trauma nursing.
