Dr. Amer Alkhatib joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America in June 2012. The gastroenterologist helps care for patients fighting pancreatic, stomach, esophageal, colon, liver or bile duct cancer at our hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He specializes in diagnosing and treating digestive system disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, hepatobiliary disease and H. pylori-related disorders.
"My ultimate goal is to focus on each of my patients," says Dr. Alkhatib. "The only interests I have in mind are their interests. I strive to be available for my patients as much as possible and provide them with the best treatment available.”
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Alkhatib earned a medical degree from the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in hepatology and liver transplantation and a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City. Most recently, Dr. Alkhatib completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Among the procedures Dr. Alkhatib regularly performs are diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies, endoscopic ultrasounds and esophagogastroduodenoscopies, as well as endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.
Dr. Alkhatib’s research has been published extensively in the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, the American Journal of Gastroenterology and several other peer- reviewed publications. He also serves as an associate editor for Gastroenterology Research. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Alkhatib loves spending time with his wife and their three children, in addition to his identical twin brother. He also enjoys playing soccer and volleyball.
