“During cancer treatment, it is very important for patients to maintain their weight and keep their strength up to fight their disease,” says Steve Mackin, President and CEO of CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center (Southwestern). “Physical activity, along with a healthy diet, is an essential part to a patients’ recovery process.”
During your visit to Southwestern, you and your caregivers (ages 18 years and older) can access the hospital's state-of-the-art Fitness Center to improve your well-being and relieve stress.
Fitness Center Amenities
The 2,512-square-foot facility is fully equipped with cardio machines, including treadmills, elliptical machines, and recumbent and upright bikes. A TV monitor is attached to each cardio machine. Other equipment includes a dumbbell rack with free weights ranging from five pounds to 50 pounds, a dual-pulley machine, and other weight-training machines.
“Our patients requested this fitness center, so it is very exciting for us to be able to honor that request,” says Mackin. “This much-anticipated addition to our hospital will not only be a great place for our patients to maintain their health goals, but will also be a place [where] caregivers can work out and relieve any stress they may be experiencing while caring for their loved one.”
Support From Your Care Team
Throughout your cancer treatment, your oncology rehabilitation therapist can help you use the Fitness Center to reach your personal fitness goals, as part of the department's Motion for Life Program. In addition, your nutritionist and naturopathic clinician can provide hydration tips, healthy-eating plans, and supplements that you may consider before and after working out.
Fitness Center Hours
Located on the first floor of the hospital, the Fitness Center is open 24/7.
