“The healing always starts with listening,” says Sandra (Sandy) Colvard, Naturopathic Oncology Provider at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Newnan, Georgia. From there, providing the appropriate care is about bringing every approach to patient care. “The ability to have access to various providers in a truly integrative setting is a really great model for the patient,” she says.
As an undergraduate, Colvard studied neuroscience at Smith College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience (cum laude) in 2002. She obtained her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2006.
Colvard began her clinical career in Tacoma, Washington. In 2008, she was asked to return as adjunct faculty to Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, where she taught Cardiology, Neurology, Clinical Practice Skills and Business Practice Management. While in Arizona, Colvard also launched her own private naturopathic medicine practice, and later established a practice in Burlington, Vermont. She also maintained a part-time naturopathic practice in Nashville, Tennessee.
Colvard is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Colvard has been recognized for her expertise, receiving the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2010 from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, in Tempe, Arizona.
The Patient Empowered Care model at CTCA was a major factor in Colvard’s decision to join CTCA. Before joining our hospital in Newnan, Georgia, she worked at CTCA in Philadelphia. “The importance of treating each patient individually and empowering them to participate in their healthcare were huge factors in my decision to work at CTCA.”
In her free time, Colvard enjoys sports, outdoor activities, and ballroom dancing with her partner. She is also an avid reader and loves music and theatre. Colvard has participated in local theater and used to have her own band. She still sings when time permits.
