A resident of Newnan, GA, since 1995, Karen Barber, PT, knew she wanted to be a part of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) as soon as she learned that Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern) was coming to her hometown.
Barber earned a bachelor of science in recreational therapy from West Georgia College and a bachelor of science in physical therapy from Georgia State University. With over 17 years of clinical rehabilitation experience, Barber has worked in a variety of settings. She served as a physical therapist in the Fayette County School System, was the Director of Rehabilitation and Fitness at Fayette Community Hospital and also opened her own private practice. Most recently, she was the Clinical Coordinator/Manager Outpatient Rehabilitation Services for a hospital.
At CTCA, Barber’s goal for her patients is to improve physical performance so that they can enjoy whatever it is they would like to do that day. Whether it is family time or going on an outing, Barber assists patients in feeling comfortable and confident that their body will support them in activities they enjoy, and also focuses on keeping them strong.
"I want our patients to enjoy their time at CTCA as much as possible, and I always make sure that my department takes that extra step to make our patients feel good," says Barber.
A self-described Georgia Peach, Barber was born and raised in nearby Fayetteville, GA. She has been married for 17 years to her high school sweetheart, Jimmy. They have two children, Jessica and Ryan, who are heavily involved in sports and their church. When time allows, Barber enjoys travelling, skiing and going to the beach.
