Board certified in oncology nutrition, Crystal Langlois has been working in the field for more than a decade. A clinical oncology dietitian with CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Langlois's interest in nutrition therapy for patients fighting cancer began during an internship, where one of her rotations included working with oncology patients.
“These patients really touched me because to most people eating is fun, but to a person undergoing cancer treatment it almost becomes a chore," says Langlois. "I really wanted to make a difference in their lives by using my knowledge to help them cope with some of the side effects from treatment."
Langlois earned a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Prior to joining CTCA, she was a registered dietitian at various hospitals throughout Mississippi, and also worked as a consulting dietitian at a community living center. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association), Mississippi Dietetic Association and Oncology Dietetic Practice Group.
"Some cancer treatments can be very powerful and have uncomfortable side effects that can affect eating,” says Langlois. "My goal is to guide my patients through the treatment process, and give them the tools to make eating easier and enjoyable while maintaining optimal nutrition status."
