Naturopathic Oncology Provider Anthony Rutledge was drawn to the Patient-Empowered Care® approach at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) and the warm environment at our hospital in Newnan, Georgia. He joined CTCA in November 2013.

“The atmosphere I encountered confirmed that this is a different kind of hospital,” he says.

Rutledge earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in chemistry, at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998.

After working for several years as a firefighter in Colorado, Rutledge decided to return to school to study naturopathic medicine. He completed a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington, in 2010, followed by a residency in Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Seattle.

During his training, Rutledge served as a volunteer clinician, providing physical examinations and naturopathic treatment at mobile settlements for homeless individuals in Seattle. He also provided volunteer naturopathic care at community athletic events. Rutledge served in a primary care role for many of his patients during his residency. In addition, he provided naturopathic support to patients fighting cancer.

In 2011, Rutledge began working at a regional wellness center in Connecticut, providing naturopathic care for patients with chronic diseases, chronic sports injuries and cancer.

Rutledge is a certified Naturopathic Physician through the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners. He is a licensed Naturopathic Physician by the State of Washington.

At CTCA, Rutledge works closely with patients to educate them about integrative approaches to cancer care. After gaining an understanding of a patient’s individual needs, he will recommend lifestyle changes, supplements or other supportive care measures aimed to decrease side effects and increase the benefits of treatment.

Above all, Rutledge assists patients with taking an active role in their care. “This approach gives patients ownership and a vested interest in the treatments,” he says.

Rutledge also works closely with other members of the Patient-Empowered Care® team. “This integrated environment at CTCA is unique and rewarding,” he says.
