Andrea Swartz, RD, LD joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, because she found the hospital to be different than any place she has worked before.
“I was drawn in by the team approach, where multiple disciplines are all working together for one purpose: the patient,” says Swartz.
A registered and licensed dietitian, Swartz earned a bachelor of science degree in science-dietetics from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Prior to joining CTCA, she spent time as a food and nutrition supervisor at a medical center in Riverdale, Georgia. She then went on to serve as Director of Food and Nutrition at another hospital in Fayette, Georgia.
“Good nutrition is important for everyone, but especially for cancer patients, as they are dealing with weight loss, malnourishment and side effects from treatments,” says Swartz. “Therefore I have an obligation to provide the best optimum health and nutrition advice I can through ACIR guidelines.”
Swartz understands that her patients are coping and dealing with a lot when they come to see her, and thus helping them maintain an optimum weight and healthy, balanced diet can be a challenge. “My goal is to be a resource to assist them through this difficult time,” says Swartz.
In her free time, Swartz enjoys running 5Ks, half marathons, full marathons and triathlons with her husband. She has two sons, and also enjoys participating in their many activities. The family is also active at a local church in the community.
