Naturopathic oncology provider Aisha Chilcoat, ND, MJ is proud to be part of the integrated team of cancer treatment providers at CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern) in Newnan, GA.

“CTCA promises to offer hope and caring respect to every patient," says Chilcoat. "I join in this promise and I feel very strongly about the hospital’s vision of conventional and alternative medicine to truly create a symbiotic, integrative dynamic. The foundation of the hospital’s values resonates with my core beliefs.”

Before joining Southeastern's naturopathic medicine team, Chilcoat worked at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, where she completed a two-year naturopathic oncology residency.

As part of her residency, she completed a series of oncology-focused rotations with staff naturopathic providers, medical oncologists and other clinicians at the hospital. Her training included supervised clinical practice in oncology, homeopathy, nutrition and botanical medicine, as well as coursework in these modalities. In the second year of her residency, Chilcoat provided personalized naturopathic recommendations for natural therapies such as vitamins and minerals, homeopathic remedies and herbal medicines.

“My approach to treating patients is to simply listen to them,” notes Chilcoat. “The words, tone and body language play a big role in how patients communicate. I feel that as a naturopathic provider, communication becomes vital to how I treat based on how the patient presents at that moment.”

Chilcoat earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ. She holds a master's degree in jurisprudence in health law from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, DE, and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and natural sciences from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Prior to pursing an education in naturopathic medicine, Chilcoat spent a number of years working as a clinical researcher for pharmaceutical sponsored trials.

Cancer is something Chilcoat is intimately familiar with, as her grandfathers and two other members of her family fought the disease. When a childhood friend passed away in 1999 after fighting leukemia, Chilcoat knew in her heart she wanted to help others who had been diagnosed with cancer.

“I started to wonder about integrative treatment options for cancer patients," says Chilcoat. "At the time, I did not know much about natural therapies for cancer, but I believed since cancer is a multifaceted disease process, it may require a multidisciplinary treatment approach. I knew I wanted to become a naturopathic provider who takes into account caring for the entire person.”

Chilcoat is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Her hobbies and interests include spending time and playing with her niece and nephews, reading, traveling and dancing.
