History of our Newnan Hospital

On June 18, 2009, Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) announced Newnan, Georgia, as the site of its fifth cancer treatment facility. A few years later, on August 15, 2012, CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern) officially joined the CTCA network of hospitals providing integrative and personalized care – all under one roof.

CTCA From the Start

CTCA was founded in 1988 by Richard J Stephenson, in honor of his mother, who lost her battle with cancer in 1982. At that time, Stephenson embarked on a mission to change the face of cancer care.

Stephenson was challenged to create a better experience for cancer patients, one which empowers them with options and hope. His commitment to the Mother Standard® of care became the organization's guiding principle. Following this belief, our doctors care for patients like family, by taking a fully integrated, individualized approach to cancer treatment.

Breaking Ground at our Georgia Cancer Center

On August 3, 2011, more than 150 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony for CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Newnan, Georgia.

Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, Senate President Pro Tempore Tommie Williams and a delegation of public officials, community and business leaders joined more than 160 cancer patients, survivors and caregivers for the celebration.

Grounded in Hope Blessing Ceremony

To celebrate the 100-day countdown of the Newnan hospital opening, on May 5, 2012, patients, caregivers, local spiritual representatives and hospital staff participated in Grounded in Hope. This unique blessing event was held at the Southeastern Regional Medical Center building site.

During the ceremony, participants placed hope-filled, permanent messages on various areas of the Newnan hospital's floor by writing favorite scriptures and inspirational messages. This emotional and inspiring event signified the beginnings of an empowering and positive environment for cancer patients and families at Southeastern. Carpet eventually covered the floor, but the messages will always remain underneath.
