"At Cancer Treatment Centers of America, we treat each patient individually and provide for their needs. We put the patients first, and focus on what they need to get through their fight."
Julie Baker, MS, RD, LD, CNSC
Clinical Oncology Dietitian
As soon as Julie Baker, MS, RD, LD, CNSC heard that Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) was moving to Newnan, Georgia, she knew she wanted to be part of the team. In November of 2012, she joined CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern) as a clinical oncology dietitian.
“Once I learned more about CTCA, I really thought that it was the kind of place I want to work, because it is where I would want to be treated,” says Baker. “CTCA puts the patient first and we are all caregivers for these patients.”
Baker earned a BS in food and nutrition from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. She then received an MS in nutrition and food science from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. After graduating, Baker completed a dietetic internship with Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.
Prior to joining CTCA, Baker worked as a clinical dietitian at a medical center in Riverdale, Georgia. Before that, she was a clinical dietitian at a rehabilitation center in Griffin, Georgia. She was also a part-time professor, and taught a course on nutritional bases of human performance for Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. While in Columbus, Baker also worked with inpatient oncology at a local hospital.
“My overall goal for my patients is for them to be adequately nourished,” says Baker. “This is important because without adequate nourishment, then they may not have the strength to continue their treatments on time or complete them at all. I also want to offer them solutions to their side effects from chemotherapy and radiation therapy.”
Baker is a board-certified nutrition support clinician, and a current member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is also a member of Dietitians in Nutrition Support Dietetic Practice Group.
