"Cancer Treatment Centers of America provides a personal approach to healthcare that I haven’t seen elsewhere. Not just medically, but emotionally and spiritually as well."

Diane Schaab, MS, LPC
Mind-Body Therapist

A mind-body therapist with Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern, Diane Schaab, MS, LPC began her career working as a teacher. However, her strong desire to help others led her to volunteer her time at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Midwestern) in Zion, Illinois. Having lost a family member to cancer, Schaab felt a strong connection to working with the patients and caregivers at Midwestern.

“I wanted to provide these patients the support that my mother unfortunately didn’t receive when she went through treatment at another facility,” says Schaab, who felt very at home and fulfilled while volunteering. As soon as she saw the opportunity to move to Georgia to work with CTCA on a full-time basis at Southeastern, Schaab jumped at the chance.

Schaab earned a MSEd in school counseling from Northern Illinois University, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to joining CTCA, she worked as a math teacher and as an agency counselor, where she proved individual and group counseling for adult and adolescent victims of domestic violence.

At Southeastern, Schaab will lead individual and group counseling sessions, run support groups, and conduct relaxation and guided imagery sessions. She will also host introductory Qigong and Reiki classes, and head the laughter club.

“Our focus is on the emotional impact cancer has on a patient and their loved ones,” says Schaab of her role as a mind-body therapist. “Emotions have a strong influence on the healing process and the immune system, and that’s why we’re here to help.”

Joining Schaab in Atlanta is her husband, son and daughter. In her free time, Schaab enjoys being active, whether it’s hiking, biking, swimming or any other activity that allow her to spend time outdoors.
