Learn More About The Patient Activities At Southeastern: Chat with Us | Email Us

At Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern), our various activities and classes are designed to help you, your caregivers and family members relax and enjoy your stay as much as possible while going through treatment.

Mark Barnes, the Patient Activities Coordinator at Southeastern, spent over 20 years working with patients at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in various roles. From patient appreciation dinners to dressing up in costumes, Barnes enjoys nothing more than making CTCA patients laugh. He wholeheartedly believes in the CTCA philosophy that the patient always comes first, and is open to any suggestions as to which activities might be of interest to you and your loved ones.

“I’m always available to hold patients’ hands or do whatever I can to make their life better,” says Barnes. “I’m lucky to have the opportunity to create a special bond with each and every CTCA visitor.”

Barnes understands that going through cancer treatment can be a difficult experience for both patients and their caregivers, which is why he plans activities that everyone can enjoy. These activities aim to give patients and caregivers a time to relax and have a little fun while they’re away from home.

Activities

When you arrive, a patient advocate will meet with you to answer any questions you may have and review information you’ll need to know as you begin your cancer treatment. At that point, you’ll also receive a calendar that lists the monthly activities available to you and your caregivers. These calendars are also available from the concierge.

Activities may include arts and crafts, sewing, gardening and tours of different departments to help you become familiar with everyone’s roles and to answer your questions.

For nights and weekends, we hold after-hours activities such as ice cream socials, bingo, game nights and more. If you’d like to stay in for the evening, each private room at CTCA has a DVD player, and patients can pick from a vast library of movies to watch on their own.

In our activities room, we have a large TV for movie nights, as well as Wii games, board games, Play Station 3, Xbox and a pool table.

Outings

Every day a CTCA shuttle is available to take you to the nearby Ashley Park Mall, which has a variety of stores including Target, JC Penney, Dillard's, Best Buy, DSW and Barnes & Noble. There is also a Regal Cinema if you’d like to catch a movie between treatments.

With Atlanta just 30 minutes away, numerous outings will be available in conjunction with the Transportation Department to visit local attractions such as Zoo Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, Six Flags over Georgia and the World of Coca Cola Coke Museum, to name a few.
