Tumor Molecular Profiling for Soft Tissue Sarcoma

With over 50 different types of soft tissue sarcomas, in addition to the various stages and grades the tumors can represent, tumor molecular profiling can assist your doctors in finding the right chemotherapy drug, or mixture of drugs, for your needs.
Tumor molecular profiling is used for solid tumors to help determine the probability of a tumor’s response to specific chemotherapy drugs. Each of the many soft tissue sarcoma types responds differently to chemotherapy, and some do not respond at all. This makes soft tissue sarcoma tumor molecular profiling an important part of designing your personalized treatment plan at CTCA.
First, your doctor will carefully remove a sample of the tumor as a part of a biopsy or resection surgery. Then, your doctor will test for a variety of biomarkers on the sample to determine which drug (or drugs) may work best to kill the cancer cells that make up your soft tissue sarcoma tumor.
