Skin cancer biopsies can diagnosis such types of skin cancer as squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, some sarcomas, and skin lymphomas. At Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), doctors perform skin cancer biopsies, but also use a number of diagnostic imaging tools and laboratory tests to determine the extent of the disease, tailor treatments and monitor how treatments are working. Examples of the imaging tools CTCA doctors may use include CT, MRI, PET/CT, and bone scans. They may also use Extreme Drug Resistance Assays to help choose the chemotherapy drugs that may be most beneficial for patients needing chemotherapy treatment.
