Skin Cancer Information

Skin cancer is broken down into three main categories: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. There are other forms of skin cancer, but they are uncommon. Of the three main types of skin cancer, melanoma is the least common, but also potentially the most dangerous.

Melanomas occur more commonly in women than men, and occur mostly in people over 40. Skin cancer can, however, occur at any age. The people who are at the highest risk are those who have many moles, fair skin and/or hair, burn easily in the sun, and have a history of the disease. The signs of skin cancer may include sores that do not heal, changes in existing moles, and bumps on your skin. The most important thing you can do to protect yourself against from skin cancer is to avoid excessive exposure to the sun. Remember, a tan is not a sign of health; it means that the skin has been damaged.
