What to Expect at CTCA
We work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and diagnosis. You'll find everything you need under one roof. We provide all services required to deliver a comprehensive, individualized diagnosis, evaluation and treatment plan:
- Within the first few days of your arrival at our hospital, we will perform a complete array of diagnostic tests to accurately locate and stage the disease.
- Based on the results, we'll develop your customized treatment plan and aggressively target the cancer with the latest technology.
- You can begin treatment immediately or take some time to evaluate your treatment options. We’re here to answer your questions or schedule your appointments when you’re ready to begin treatment.
A Comprehensive Evaluation
Your evaluation at CTCA will take about three to five days. During that time, you’ll meet with your medical oncologist who will review your medical history, perform health assessments and recommend diagnostic tests to determine the location, stage and extent of the cancer. In the same appointment and exam room, you’ll meet with a nurse, registered dietitian, naturopathic oncology provider and care manager.
Your Integrative Treatment Plan
Once you and your medical oncologist decide which cancer treatments you’ll receive, your dietitian, naturopathic oncology provider and other clinicians will augment your treatment plan by recommending therapies to support you during treatment and help you manage side effects.
After discussing your options, it is up to you whether you’d like to start treatment. In some cases, patients who choose to treat at CTCA after their evaluation can begin treatment immediately.
Care Under One Roof
For your convenience, most or all of your appointments will take place in one location, so that you can relax and focus on your treatment options.
When you first arrive at the hospital, you will be assigned a care manager, who is your advocate throughout the entire evaluation process. Your care manager is available 24/7 in case you have any questions, need clarification or would just like to talk.
Reduced Wait Times for Appointments and Results
We understand that waiting for test results can create a great deal of stress. To ease anxiety and help begin your cancer treatment sooner, an onsite lab at each hospital enables us to provide reduced wait times for appointments and test results.
Our turnaround time goal—from the time of the scan to providing results so treatment planning can begin—is four hours.
We want you to be as comfortable as possible during your evaluation. Our Mind-Body Medicine, Pain Management and Nutrition teams work with you to provide relaxation techniques, medications and dietary recommendations to help alleviate any anxiety, discomfort or other symptoms you are experiencing.
Our imaging team uses padding and comfort equipment, as well as a variety of positioning devices, to help you feel more relaxed during scans and procedures.
Convenient and Stress-Free Care
From the moment you contact one of our Oncology Information Specialists until you return home after visiting CTCA, we do all that we can to ensure your evaluation is convenient and stress-free.
We have five cancer hospitals located in Zion, Illinois; Goodyear, Arizona; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Newnan, Georgia; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as well as a cancer treatment and wellness center in Seattle.
Nearly 70 percent of our patients choose to travel to our cancer hospitals from out of state, rather than visiting their local community hospitals. Many make this decision because they believe visiting CTCA is worth the trip, and because we make the experience as easy as possible.
Before Your Visit
Before your visit to CTCA, we obtain your medical records and transfer them, so that you don’t have to worry about the hassle.
We handle your travel and lodging, based upon your wishes and recommendations. We will schedule your air or train travel, cover the cost of your flight or train ride, and strive to make your travel as smooth and comfortable as possible.
For your second opinion evaluation, we will also cover the cost of travel for your caregiver, because we know how important it is to have family, friends or loved ones by your side during this difficult time.
When You Arrive
Our experienced Transportation Team will greet you at the airport or train station when you arrive. They will carry your luggage and drive you to our hospital. During the ride, our drivers are happy to answer questions along the way, or provide any information they can to make you feel at ease.
While you are staying with us, the Transportation Team will shuttle you back and forth from our hospital to lodging sites and take you to places around town, such as restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
Should you need anything while you are at our hospitals, a Concierge is available to assist you with everything from picking up a toothbrush to helping plan dinner reservations.
Lodging, Meals and Entertainment
During your evaluation, you can stay onsite at our hospital, or you can choose to stay at one of our nearby lodging sites at a discounted rate. Before you arrive, our travel coordinators will help you decide which location is right for you.
Our dining room offers delicious, healthy and affordable meals designed by our chefs. The culinary department works closely with the Nutrition Therapy Team to ensure that meals not only taste great, but also provide the nutrients you need to stay strong and nourished. Whenever possible, our chefs use organic and local ingredients.
When you arrive, you will receive a calendar filled with events at our hospital to keep you educated and entertained. Some examples include cooking demonstrations, movie nights and outings to local attractions or sporting events.
Each hospital has a gym, business center, salon, child care services and free Wi-Fi throughout.
