Radical Prostatectomy
Learn about a surgery for prostate cancer called a radical prostatectomy. Dr. Larry Bans explains how it is performed and what side effects men may experience.
Surgery for Prostate Cancer
Partial or total removal of the prostate, called a prostatectomy, is an option for some prostate cancer patients at CTCA. However, because of a higher likelihood of sexual and urinary side effects, this type of prostate cancer surgery is typically not the preferred method of treatment.
At CTCA, we offer innovative alternatives to prostate cancer surgery. We use highly targeted radiation therapies to kill tumors, along with other innovative treatments, like hormone therapy and immunotherapy, to fight against the growth of new cancer cells. By minimizing the risk of incontinence and erectile dysfunction, these therapies help to preserve your quality of life after prostate cancer treatment.
