We were among the first to publish treatment results on our website, and knew it would be perceived as a pioneering move when we decided to do so. We also recognize this is a
work in progress, and continually reevaluate the most responsible way to report our data. The treatment results appearing on our website are accurate, and have been validated by a well-
respected, third party medical biostatistician. That doesn’t mean there may not be a better or clearer way to communicate our results, and we remain open to any helpful suggestions on
this. Just as we approach the quality of care we provide our patients, we strive to bring the highest level of excellence to our communications, too.
We do not agree with the assertions made in this article for the following reasons:
- The data appearing on the CTCA website have been validated by a well-respected third party and accurately reflect the treatment results of the patients we have served.
- We acknowledge that the patient population we serve may not be representative of the general population of cancer patients for various reasons, both clinical and otherwise.
- The SEER data are the only readily comparable data available at this time, and we clearly disclose on our website the limitations that apply to the interpretation of these data when
compared to ours: (http://www.cancercenter.com/cancer-statistics/statistical-methodology.cfm).
We also plan to move the Methodology section of our website adjacent to the presentation of our Cancer Treatment Statistics and Results to further enhance the transparency of this
We understand that empowering complex and advanced stage cancer patients with information that will assist them in making the right choices about their treatment is a vitally
important matter. As such, we are committed to clarity in communicating our treatment results and welcome further dialogue about how we, as part of the broader cancer care community,
can achieve greater clarity in reporting our results to the public.
