Mr. Mayo is the co-founder of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) and Vice Chairman of the Board. He has over 27 years of experience developing comprehensive oncology cancer centers of excellence throughout the United States. His specific expertise is in the area of organizational growth and development, cancer program design and management, physician practice management, business development, and mergers and acquisitions. 

Through his leadership, CTCA has matured into a successful privately-held health care company.  Prior to joining Cancer Treatment Centers of America in 1980, Mr. Mayo honorably served 20 years in the United States Navy.  He is a decorated Retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer, having been awarded the esteemed Navy Achievement Medal four times as well as the prestigious Navy Commendation Medal, in a 20-year career.

Mr. Mayo’s responsibilities as Vice Chairman include representing CTCA in industry, government, and payer relationships. Furthermore, he oversees all aspects of the company’s development and growth initiatives.  He also developed and sits on the boards of Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, OK; Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, IL; Western Regional Medical Center in Goodyear, AZ; Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center in Seattle, WA; Gateway for Cancer Research in suburban Chicago, IL; University Centers of Lake County, IL; Great Lakes Naval Museum Association; the Board of Governors at the American Federation of Hospitals; and other national and international organizations.
