Gerard van Grinsven joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2013, inspired by a personal vision to take integrative cancer care to a new level of clinical excellence and a commitment to deliver unparalleled patient satisfaction.
CTCA is a national network of five cancer care hospitals that specialize in the treatment of patients fighting complex or advanced-stage cancer. The company is renowned for delivery of The Mother Standard® of care through an integrative care model that combines conventional treatment options with nutritional counseling, naturopathic medicine, mind-body therapy, and spiritual support to treat the “whole patient” in a manner that enhances quality of life both during and after treatment.
Mr. van Grinsven, a native of Maastricht, Netherlands, has a distinguished career in both the healthcare and hospitality industries. Prior to joining CTCA, he served as a senior executive with the Henry Ford Health System (Detroit), where he was President and CEO of its award-winning, 192-bed, West Bloomfield Hospital. He also served as part of the global leadership team of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, where he opened 20 luxury hotels in Asia, the Middle East, South America and the United States. Mr. van Grinsven also served in a leadership capacity at The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok Hotel, which was voted one of the leading hotels in the world. Personally committed to service excellence and providing an exemplary customer experience, Mr. van Grinsven played a pivotal role in the achievement of three prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards (one at the Henry Ford Health System and two at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company), which is the only formal recognition of the performance excellence of both public and private U.S. organizations in the business, health care, education and nonprofit sectors bestowed by the President of the United States.
Throughout his career, Mr. van Grinsven has lived and worked in ten different countries. This experience has provided him with the opportunity to immerse himself in many different cultures and has helped shape his strong multicultural orientation, which has become an important part of the unique value that he brings to every business undertaking to this very day.
Mr. van Grinsven’s innovative management style has led to the introduction of many noteworthy achievements in both customer service and patient care. He has introduced the same creative thinking to CTCA, where he is leading an enterprise-wide effort to bring the best principals of hospitality to the delivery of world-class health care. He believes the integration of these two disciplines will elevate the quality of healthcare to an unprecedented level - one that surprises and delights patients, their caregivers, and their families.
Mr. van Grinsven holds a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel Management from the Hotel Management School in Maastricht, Netherlands. He is a member of the Cornell University Division of Nutritional Sciences Advisory Board. His board and charitable work includes appointments to the Henry Ford Health Sciences Western Wayne/Downriver Board of Trustees and the Michigan Kidney Foundation.
