Origins of CTCA
When Mrs. Stephenson battled to overcome her cancer in the 1970s, her son, Richard J Stephenson, expected she would receive the most advanced treatment available; but, like many loved ones of cancer patients, he was disappointed when he found there was no “gold standard” for cancer care. Unlike others, Richard turned his frustration into action. He felt that no one should have to endure the insensitive experience that preceded his mother’s death.
The Mother Standard®
Mr. Bonner, CEO of CTCA speaks of Richard J Stephenson’s (founder) vision for the Mother Standard® of care, the type of care that you would want for your own mother, father, sister or brother.
What Makes CTCA Unique
Dr. Staren, senior vice president for clinical affairs describes CTCA as a home rather than a hospital. Not only is the atmosphere warm and inviting but there are large amounts of space dedicate to the comfort patients and their families. CTCA is a leader in the industry of patient and employee satisfaction and has been recognized in numerous accredited groups such as JCAHO.
The Most Experienced Physicians
Roger Cary, COO of CTCA, talks about the world-class reputation of CTCA’s physicians and clinicians. [But] “What really matters to us is, do they have bedside manner? Would you allow them to serve your mother, your brother, your sister? Do they have the bedside manner that will make a difference in your life?” says Cary. CTCA only hires those physicians who uphold to the highest standard of care.
Clinical Trials
Roger Cary, COO of CTCA, talks about CTCA’s clinical research and how we bring innovation to the besides of our patients today.
Celebrate Life
Every year CTCA celebrates their 5-year survivors by planting a tree in their honor. Richard J Stephenson, founder of CTCA, and Denise Geuder, vice president of patient care services in Tulsa, Oklahoma, recognize 350 survivors who are cancer free.
Cooking Healthy Demonstration
CTCA Tulsa chef, Kenny Wagoner and Tulsa nutritionist, Kalli Castille, demonstrate how cooking can be fun, healthy and delicious even when undergoing cancer treatment! Wagoner and Castille narrate a cooking demonstration that was given at CTCA’s Tulsa Hospital during their Celebrate Life Ceremony in 2005. Castille explains how dark berries, such as blueberries and blackberries, provide cancer-fighting properties such as antioxidants and fiber.
