Origins of CTCA
When Mrs. Stephenson battled to overcome her cancer in the 1970s, her son, Richard J Stephenson, expected she would receive the most advanced treatment available; but, like many loved ones of cancer patients, he was disappointed when he found there was no “gold standard” for cancer care. Unlike others, Richard turned his frustration into action. He felt that no one should have to endure the insensitive experience that preceded his mother’s death.
Eastern Regional Medical Centers Dedication Ceremony
A Dedication Ceremony was held at the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Center on April 27th with a host of Keynote speakers including The Honorable Nancy Brinker (founder of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and former US Ambassador of Hungry), The Honorable Senator Christine Tartaglione, Linda Armstrong Kelly (mother of Lance Armstrong) and many CTCA patients. Over 400 people were on hand for the hospital's dedication to the Mother Standard®: where every stakeholder is empowered to care for every patient with the same love they have for their own mothers.
Patient Empowerment MedicineSM
The definition of CTCA’s Patient Empowerment MedicineSM philosophy is narrated by radiation oncologist Doug Kelly. Patient Empowerment MedicineSM is a model of care pioneered by CTCA which positions patients and caregivers at the center of their own care. Using PEM, patients voice opinions and preferences to CTCA medical professionals - and are heard. They participate in their own treatment decision-making, and their choices are respected.
Technology
Dr. Kelly, radiation oncologist at the Tulsa hospital, speaks about CTCA’s state of the art technology and how CTCA’s delivery systems are different than other hospitals.
The Mother Standard®

Not only is the atmosphere warm and inviting but there are large amounts of space dedicate to the comfort patients and their families. CTCA is a leader in the industry of patient and employee satisfaction and has been recognized in numerous accredited groups such as JCAHO.
The Most Experienced Physicians
Roger Cary, COO of CTCA, talks about the world-class reputation of CTCA’s physicians and clinicians. [But] “What really matters to us is, do they have bedside manner? Would you allow them to serve your mother, your brother, your sister? Do they have the bedside manner that will make a difference in your life?” says Cary. CTCA only hires those physicians who uphold to the highest standard of care.

Tulsa Hospital’s Grand Opening
In April 2005 CTCA opened the doors to its newest hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. More than 100 CTCA cancer patients, along with their family members and healthcare providers, were actively involved in every step of the hospital’s design process – from the initial building planning concepts to architectural elements, including exterior appearance, interior design, lighting and colors. The Tulsa facility also utilizes state-of-the-art technology, integrated with complementary therapies, all under one roof. Many of CTCA’s treatments technologies are unique to the region, including High Dose Rate Brachytherapy and Tomotherapy.
