A pituitary tumor is a tumor located in the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is a small organ about the size of a pea located in the center of the brain. In most cases, a pituitary tumor is benign (non-cancerous). Yet even if a pituitary tumor is benign, it should not be ignored.

In most cases, a pituitary tumor grows very slowly and does not spread to other parts of the body. The slow growth pattern of a pituitary tumor makes recognition of pituitary tumor symptoms more difficult. One problem that often occurs as the pituitary tumor grows is it begins to press on the optical nerves. Possible indications of a pituitary tumor include: headaches, trouble with your vision or eye pain, nausea and/or vomiting, growth failure and low or high blood pressure.

These symptoms can also be attributed to a number of other ailments and may not be the result of a pituitary tumor. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor.
