Pancreatic Cancer Treatment: Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a treatment for pancreatic cancer which uses anticancer drugs to destroy pancreatic cancer cells by impeding their growth and reproduction. These drugs are given intravenously, by injection or by mouth. Chemotherapy, while often used alone, is also used in conjunction with radiation therapy or cancer surgery.
Chemotherapy's side effects are often unpleasant and can include nausea, vomiting, hair loss and mouth sores. Your Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) care team may employ new approaches to reduce or moderate these side effects and help you through your chemotherapy treatment. The fractionated-dose approach, for example, may diminish the side effects, particularly nausea and vomiting.
Medical oncologists at CTCA offer many leading chemotherapies. Furthermore, CTCA continually updates its chemotherapy protocols to reflect the latest pancreatic cancer treatments.
