Pancreas Cancer Information

According to the National Cancer Institute, about 26,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with pancreas cancer each year. Pancreas cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. Of the thousands of people diagnosed with pancreas cancer annually, a similar number of patients will also die from pancreas cancer. The reason that the survival rate for pancreas cancer is so low is because pancreas cancer is often not discovered until it has advanced beyond the initial stages.

As pancreas cancer grows, it may invade organs that surround the pancreas, such as the stomach or small intestine. Pancreas cancer cells also may break away from the tumor and spread to other parts of the body. When pancreas cancer cells spread, they often form new tumors in lymph nodes and the liver, and sometimes in the lungs or bones.
