Tumor Markers for Ovarian Cancer

At Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), we are committed to developing the most appropriate ovarian cancer treatment plan for you. CTCA cancer experts use tumor markers to help detect the presence of ovarian cancer and monitor your response to therapy.

Tumor markers are substances that can be found in the body (e.g., blood, urine) when cancer is present. In a tumor marker panel, experts analyze blood-borne substances produced by ovarian cancer cells. If certain tumor markers are detected, this could indicate that ovarian cancer may still be present.

The following are some tumor markers CTCA cancer experts use to monitor ovarian cancer treatment:

  • CA-125 is a highly useful marker for monitoring disease progression in ovarian cancers. Experts measure the level of the CA-125 protein produced by ovarian cancer cells.
  • CEA (or Carcinoembryonic Antigen) is useful in monitoring patients with various types of malignancies. It is used to evaluate your response to therapy, make a prognosis, and is a possible indicator of recurrence.
