Stage IV ovarian cancer is the most advanced stage of ovarian cancer. It means that the cancer has metastasized to distant sites, such as the inside of the spleen, liver, lungs or other organs outside the abdomen and pelvic region. Stage IV ovarian cancer has two subcategories:
- IVA: Cancer cells are found in the fluid around the lungs.
- IVB: Cancer has spread to the inside of the spleen or liver, to lymph nodes other than the lymph nodes in the back of the abdomen, and/or to other organs or tissues outside the abdomen and pelvic region, including the lungs, brain and skin.
