Nutrition Therapy for Ovarian Cancer
Many ovarian cancer patients experience gastrointestinal symptoms. The nutrition therapy team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is dedicated to helping you stay strong and nutritionally balanced, so you can maintain your quality of life while fighting the disease.
Your dietitian will monitor your nutrition status from the beginning to the end of your ovarian cancer treatment, making modifications as needed to minimize side effects and treatment interruptions before they arise.
Every ovarian cancer patient is scheduled to meet with a registered dietitian during their first visit to CTCA. During this visit, you are given a full assessment to identify daily goals for calories and protein. Your dietitian will look at your health history, disease state and treatment plan to recommend nourishing foods during your cancer care.
Nutrition Support for Ovarian Cancer Treatment Side Effects
Surgery is a common treatment for ovarian cancer, and patients often need help controlling their sugars post-operatively because stress can raise sugar levels. Steroids that are often used to reduce side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea, can also raise sugars. Your cancer nutrition team will assist you in managing blood sugar levels throughout your ovarian cancer treatment.
For ovarian cancer patients who are undergoing aggressive treatments and are not able to meet their nutrition needs orally, the cancer nutrition team will provide alternative options, including IV nutrition and feeding tubes.

Working together in close proximity allows for a fully integrated approach to treating ovarian cancer. Your dietitian is able to share any specific nutrition challenges with other members of your care team, such as your gynecologic oncologist and naturopathic clinician.
