TomoTherapy® for Oral Cancer
For some oral cancer patients at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), TomoTherapy® may be an option for treatment. One of the most advanced radiation treatments available, TomoTherapy® allows your CTCA radiation therapy team to:
- Deliver precise, powerful doses of radiation from a complete circumference of 360 degrees
- Strike hard-to-reach tumors in your mouth or throat by sculpting small, intense beams of radiation
- Effectively target tumors using built-in CT scanning to confirm the shape and position of the tumor seconds before your treatment begins
- Reduce radiation exposure to your healthy surrounding tissues, often dramatically
Each time you receive TomoTherapy® treatment, you’ll undergo a CT scan from the TomoTherapy® HI-ART System®. Minutes after the CT scan is taken, radiation therapists will make technical adjustments to align the system to your exact position. The CT scan allows for optimal alignment and helps to ensure that your CTCA radiation therapy team target your oral cancer radiation treatment as much as possible.
TomoTherapy® may be a particularly viable treatment if you have reached your maximum tolerance dosage of traditional radiation, or if your tumor is in a hard-to-reach area.
