Chiropractic Care for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and its treatment can cause stress on your musculoskeletal system (your bones, muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments). You may experience aches and pains in your neck and/or back, headaches or difficulty walking.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) offers chiropractic care to restore the frame of the body so it can work more efficiently as a whole.
When used during your NHL treatment, chiropractic services may help to:
- Restore nerve function
- Increase mobility and range of motion
- Alleviate neck and low back pain/stiffness
- Improve postural changes
- Reduce muscle tension and joint inflammation
- Relieve headaches
- Reduce sciatic nerve pain (pain from your lower back to the back of your leg)
Your Individual Chiropractic Evaluation
Depending on your individual diagnosis and NHL treatment regimen, your NHL team at CTCA may recommend a consultation with a chiropractor. During the initial meeting, your chiropractor will review your symptoms and perform a thorough history and physical assessment.
While chiropractic care can be helpful to many NHL patients, it may not be for everyone. For example, chiropractic services are not recommended if a bone metastasis is found or your platelet counts are low.
If your CTCA care team determines chiropractic care is safe and appropriate, your chiropractor will work with your oncologists and you to develop a plan. Throughout your NHL treatment, your team will consistently monitor your scans and X-rays, as well as your lab results, to ensure safe delivery of care.
Chiropractic Techniques During NHL Treatment
Our licensed chiropractors may use any of the following non-invasive manual techniques to correct bone, muscle and joint problems and restore nerve function during your NHL treatment:
- Hands-on adjustments
- Massage
- Stretching
- Electrical stimulation of the muscles
- Traction
- Heat
- Ice
- Application of special instruments
- Non-force techniques (e.g., SOT blocks placed on pelvis)
Additionally, your chiropractor will teach you what you can do to improve your musculoskeletal health and well-being. After you have completed your NHL treatment, your chiropractor can arrange for you to continue chiropractic services near your home.
