Multiple Myeloma: MRI

Short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI is an innovative diagnostic technology used by radiologists at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) to find abnormal plasma cells (myeloma cells) within your body. MRI pinpoints the precise location of myeloma cells by using magnetic energy and radio waves that create detailed, cross-sectional internal images of the body. The main component of most MRI systems is a large tube-shaped or cylindrical magnet, which surrounds the patient as the MRI scan is performed.

MRI is also useful because it helps CTCA radiologists and other specialists identify the stage of your multiple myeloma. Since multiple myeloma treatments can vary according to the stage of the cancer, when our experts identify the stage of your cancer, they can better customize treatment to meet your unique needs.
