Dr. Sudhir Hansalia says it was the unique Patient Empowered Care® model offered at Cancer Treatment Center of America® (CTCA) that attracted him to join the CTCA hospital in north suburban Chicago in September 2013. He says, “Patients can get virtually everything they need under one roof, with advanced technology, and the communication among the team of physicians and providers is effective.”
Originally from India, Dr. Hansalia completed a medical degree at B. J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, India in 1997. He then pursued a residency in anesthesiology at N.H.L. Municipal Medical College, also in Ahmedabad. Dr. Hansalia then came to the United States, where he completed a residency in internal medicine at Southern Illinois University in Springfield in 2008. He then worked as a hospitalist in Washington before joining a hematology-oncology fellowship program at University of Illinois at Chicago, which he completed in 2013.
During his medical training, Dr. Hansalia focused on research, presenting case studies in medical journals and at professional conferences. He is fluent in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
As a medical oncologist, Dr. Hansalia functions as the primary physician for patients at CTCA. He facilitates communication with other clinicians on the care team and advises patients, before, during and after their treatment. He provides patients with a clear understanding of their cancer diagnosis, along with treatment options and the goals of therapy.
Dr. Hansalia values being part of a team dedicated to patient-centered cancer care. He emphasizes, “Every team member is committed to the same goal of helping patients go through this challenging time.”
