“What I value most about CTCA is our patient-centered approach,” says Sara Zank, a nurse practitioner in the Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in far north suburban Chicago.
Zank earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She then served as a U.S. naval nurse for several years in inpatient oncology, radiation oncology and urgent care departments at various naval medical facilities.
Zank continued her nurse training by completing a master’s degree in nursing at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2010. She served as a hospital nurse practitioner in surgery and emergency care units. From 2006 to 2010, Zank worked as an oncology care manager and oncology nurse navigator at CTCA. In 2014, she returned to CTCA as a nurse practitioner.
At CTCA, Zank works alongside surgeons to help prepare patients for surgery and aid in their recovery. Her area of clinical expertise is breast cancer. “Listening, laughing and teaching,” says Zank, are her best methods for comforting and encouraging her patients.
Zank is certified by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation as an oncology certified nurse. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Society of Advanced Wound Care and Advanced Practice Nurses of the Ozarks.
In her free time, Zank enjoys distance running.
