Dr. Ravi Prakash, Gastroenterologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Zion, Illinois, wanted to be a doctor since he was a child. When his father died from a cardiac event, he saw the limited options and time devoted to his family. “This experience gave me the motivation to become a physician and make a difference in people’s lives,” Dr. Prakash says.

Originally from India, Dr. Prakash completed
his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, part of Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences. He pursued additional medical training in the United
Kingdom and received the United Kingdom’s prestigious Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) degree. Dr. Prakash later moved to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, where he
completed an internal medicine residency and a specialization in gastroenterology. He then completed a Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship, focused on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic ultrasound at the University of Florida Shands Hospital.

Dr. Prakash has extensive training in interventional endoscopy. He has expertise in numerous specialized procedures, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography; endoscopic ultrasound; cryotherapy; radiofrequency ablation;  enteral staining and endosutures.

Licensed to practice medicine by the States of Illinois, Ohio and Florida, Dr. Prakash is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. An award-winning researcher, he has written book chapters on liver disease and published research on colonic polyp detection; gastro-esophageal reflux disease; cirrhosis and liver disease complications, such as hepatic encephalopathy, in numerous medical journals. He serves on the journal review committee for American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Nature Reviews in Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Research. He is a member of several prestigious societies, such as American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

Dr. Prakash joined CTCA® in July 2015. He was drawn to the dedication and passion among the providers, and the Patient Empowered Care® philosophy. “Every effort to preserve and improve this approach is made here,” says Dr. Prakash. “I strive to provide the highest quality care to patients, along with strengthening their confidence and resolve to fight cancer.”

When he is not at CTCA, Dr. Prakash enjoys spending time with his family, along with outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, swimming and golfing.
