Watching her father grapple with dietary changes to cope with serious health issues turned Kirsten Kane’s attention to nutrition early on in life. “Even as a teenager, I knew I wanted to help people through these difficult transitions,” says Kane, Clinical Oncology Dietitian at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Chicago.

Kirsten Kane completed a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, then received her master’s degree in food and nutritional sciences at the same institution. Her training also included an intensive, year-long dietetic internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, where she provided medical nutrition therapy for patients coping with cancer, renal diseases, transplant, surgery and other medical issues.

Kane began her career working with women, infants and children to ensure prenatal, postpartum and early childhood health. She developed customized nutrition care plans for women and monitored their health through routine blood tests and other measures.

At CTCA®, Kane provides recommendations to help patients manage treatment side effects that can impact dietary intake. She monitors vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, providing support to ensure their correction, and listens to the concerns her patients have regarding dietary habits and lifestyle. “I want to create a plan that will specifically meet their needs,” says Kane.

Kane is a dietitian nutritionist licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, a board-certified specialist in oncology nutrition by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and a registered dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

When she is not looking after the health of her patients, Kane pursues her own healthy lifestyle. She enjoys camping, cooking, taking her dog for long walks, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends. She’s also an avid sports fan.
