“The passion that goes into the care of each and every patient is what I enjoy most,” says Alison Tierney, a clinical oncology dietitian at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in north suburban Chicago.
Tierney earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She then turned her focus to health, earning a bachelor’s degree in dietetics at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
As part of her training, Tierney completed an internship in dietetics at CTCA. She has also worked as a nutrition assistant at an athletic club and has been awarded academic scholarships. She joined CTCA in June 2014.
At CTCA, Tierney provides patients with the tools they need to manage treatment side effects, make healthy lifestyle changes and avoid treatment interruptions. She also provides medical nutrition therapy when necessary. “I strive to tailor individual nutrition plans based on nutritional status, lifestyle and personal goals,” says Tierney.
Tierney especially values the multidisciplinary approach at CTCA. “The collaborative environment is unique,” says Tierney.
When she is not at CTCA, Tierney enjoys spending time with her husband and family. A lifelong athlete, she participates in numerous sports, including ice hockey, softball, golf, tennis and running. In addition, she loves cooking and cheering on her favorite sports teams.
