The opportunity to put patients first every day and work alongside clinicians from several disciplines to offer the most comprehensive, integrated oncology care available attracted Tracey Thomas to Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). The naturopathic clinician joined our dedicated team of cancer experts at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in late 2008.
Thomas says, “I have always worked collaboratively with physicians and other clinicians. But at CTCA, I have the opportunity to work with these professionals under one roof, along with support staff who provide an array of services for patients and caregivers. It’s phenomenal!”
Thomas brings expertise in naturopathic medicine, clinical nutrition and preventative medicine to her position, along with a passion for providing quality, personalized care. She works one-on-one with her patients, offering individualized, scientifically based recommendations for natural therapies that support the health of the whole body and minimize the side effects of treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The natural therapies she prescribes, including herbal medicines and vitamins, are safe and appropriate to pair with conventional treatments.
“I listen closely to my patients so that I gain an understanding of each person’s condition, as well as his or her values,” she says. “This helps me to provide naturopathic recommendations that address each patient’s unique needs.”
Thomas earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Prior to that, she completed a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology, with an exercise science concentration, at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
She began her career in naturopathic medicine at Alitus Integrative Health & Wellness in Vernon Hills, Illinois. She practiced naturopathy at Colorado Osteopathic & Integrative Medicine Associates in Denver, Colorado, as well. Thomas also garnered valuable experience providing nutritional support to gastric bypass surgery patients at Mercy Bariatric Wellness Center, also in Vernon Hills.
Additionally, Thomas served as a wellness consultant for more than five years. She has worked with large organizations, where she developed and implemented corporate health and wellness programs for employees in metropolitan Chicago and Detroit.
Thomas has been a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She also served on the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians’ Board of Directors from 2005 to 2007.
Along with good nutrition and naturopathic support, Thomas says she has always believed exercise and physical activity to be key to achieving optimal wellness. Growing up, she was a competitive soccer player. Today she enjoys snowboarding and disc golf, as well as hiking and biking.
