Shauna M. Birdsall, ND, FABNO – Naturopathic Clinician

Learn More About Naturopathic Medicine at CTCA: Chat with Us | Email Us

Since 2000, Shauna Birdsall, ND has provided customized naturopathic recommendations to complement our patients’ conventional oncology care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. As a member of many of our patients’ care teams, she focuses on the safe, effective use of such natural therapies as vitamins, minerals, botanical medicines, amino acids, and homeopathic remedies to help improve patients' quality of life.

Each day, Birdsall goes above and beyond to fulfill our promise to abide by the Mother Standard®. She cares for each of her patients just as she would members of her own family. And, at a personal level, Birdsall understands the challenges cancer patients and their families face, as some of her own family members have battled cancer. Unfortunately, her grandfather passed away from MALT lymphoma, but her grandmother is a colon cancer survivor and her father is a prostate cancer survivor.

The naturopathic clinician feels that it’s extremely important that her patients’ needs are continually met—no matter how great or small the need. That’s why in each visit with patients, she always asks, “What else can I do for you?”

Before pursuing a degree in naturopathic medicine, Birdsall received a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of California, Davis. She earned a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland in 2000, and then went on to complete a two-year residency training program in naturopathic medicine and oncology at Midwestern.

Birdsall is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. She collaborates regularly with other CTCA clinicians to research the use of naturopathic therapies in cancer care. Additionally, Birdsall is an author of several research studies presented at major medical meetings, and she has been published in the journal Integrative Cancer Therapies.

In addition to her patient care responsibilities, she also trains and supervises naturopathic residents at Midwestern.

Birdsall is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the Society for Integrative Oncology, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians, where she has served on the Board of Directors.
