Like each and every one of your care team members at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), naturopathic clinician Lidia Wiersum is committed to helping you heal and enjoy a better quality of life.

Wiersum works side by side with oncologists, dietitians, physical therapists, pain management professionals, mind-body therapists, and spiritual support staff at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. She teams up with these care providers to develop and implement cancer treatment plans unique to each patient. Her treatment recommendations incorporate natural therapies that can strengthen your immune system, boost your energy level, and reduce side effects associated with your conventional treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

In addition to the time she spends with her patients, Wiersum trains and mentors naturopathic residents at Midwestern. With a multidisciplinary team of CTCA colleagues, Wiersum also conducts clinical research. She’s participated in research on the effects of complementary/alternative medical therapies on pancreatic and prostate cancer patients undergoing integrative treatment at CTCA hospitals. She has presented on subjects such as naturopathic therapies and breast cancer treatment, and immunity and cancer.

Wiersum earned a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland. In 2005, she completed a two-year residency in naturopathic medicine and oncology at Midwestern, and thereafter, joined the hospital’s naturopathic staff.

Before pursuing a degree in naturopathy, she completed a bachelor’s of arts degree in biology at Rutgers University. During her undergraduate years at Rutgers, she worked as a research assistant in the Departments of Nutritional Sciences and Ecological Sciences. She minored in Russian, which she speaks fluently. She also served as a teaching assistant in the Department of European and Slavic Languages at the university.

A Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology, Wiersum has been published in Naturopathic Doctor News and Review. She is a member of several professional associations, including the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Society for Integrative Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Wiersum is also certified in clinical hypnotherapy, bio-linguistic kinesiology and Reiki therapy.

In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, singing, sewing, creating pottery, antique shopping, and mountain biking.
