Dr. Kamal Patel joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) after serving as chief radiation oncology resident at Oregon Health & Science University hospitals in Portland. While there, he garnered the Rose Award for Excellence in Patient Care.
Dr. Patel completed his internship in family practice at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. He obtained his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, where he also earned a master’s of science degree in applied physiology. Prior to that, he received a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Iowa.
In addition, Dr. Patel gained extensive knowledge of brachytherapy for patients with prostate cancer at the Seattle Prostate Institute.
Dr. Patel says what impresses him most about CTCA is that patient care is top priority.
"We truly have a comprehensive cancer center, with specialists from every medical field coordinating care for optimal patient treatment," he says.
He meets with many cancer patients for whom radiation therapy may be a treatment option. Dr. Patel says he thoroughly reviews each patient’s medical history, imaging reports (e.g., CT scans, PET/CT scans, MRIs), and performs extensive examinations. These are critical steps he makes to help him formulate treatment recommendations for each patient.
An advocate of patient empowerment and education, Dr. Patel believes it’s important for patients to learn as much as they can about their disease. He takes time to talk with them in great detail about their diagnosis and treatment and answer any questions.
