"At Cancer Treatment Centers of America, we understand people who have cancer have needs in addition to cancer treatment—physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Our team of experienced clinicians works together in an integrative setting with each patient's oncologist to make sure all those needs are met so that patients tolerate their cancer treatment with as few side effects as possible, and maintain as normal a quality of life as possible."
Carolyn Lammersfeld, MS, RD, CSO, LD, CNSC
Vice President of Integrative Medicine
As the Vice President of Integrative Medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), Carolyn Lammersfeld oversees our unique treatment model, which combines the most innovative, state-of-the-art oncology therapies with supportive therapies to minimize side effects and help patients maintain quality of life. Our cancer experts deliver this care in a patient-centered environment designed to meet the unique needs of each of our patients.
Lammersfeld joined CTCA in October 1998 as Director of Nutrition at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Illinois. In January 2007, she was also appointed to the position of National Director of Nutrition to assist in launching nutrition programs for two new CTCA hospitals and coordinating nutritional services throughout the enterprise. In March 2012, Lammersfeld was promoted to her present role.
Lammersfeld has worked tirelessly to pioneer the science of nutrition in cancer care by conducting and publishing clinical studies that document the outcomes of nutrition interventions. She continues to lead the exciting, ongoing development of a CTCA nutrition data mine with Dr. Pankaj Vashi and Dr. Ryan McCabe, which will allow CTCA to report clinical outcomes on nutrition interventions. She has written numerous research protocols, including obtaining an IND to use OMEGAVEN® for PN-induced hepatic injury. She also regularly represents CTCA at national nutrition conferences.
Lammersfeld’s accomplishments include the development of a nutrition assessment template for the CTCA Electronic Health Records system, as well as branded nutrition education materials and resources.
Lammersfeld is a licensed and registered dietitian who is board certified in oncology nutrition and nutrition support. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She completed a post-graduate internship and master's degree in clinical nutrition at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, Rush University in Chicago.
Prior to CTCA, Lammersfeld served in numerous positions, including at the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
