Carolyn Lammersfeld and her experienced team of professionals understand the important role that good nutrition plays in your treatment success.
“Many people with cancer experience weight loss or malnutrition,” notes Lammersfeld. “And studies show that as little as a five percent weight loss can have a negative impact on those living with cancer.”
You can count on the department’s seven registered and licensed clinical oncology nutritionists to take a proactive approach to your care, addressing small nutrition issues before they can become a major problem. The team has over 68 years of combined experience and is committed to working closely with you to assess your nutritional status during every visit.
Lammersfeld earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She completed her post-graduate internship and her master's degree in clinical nutrition from Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, Rush University in Chicago.
Lammersfeld joined the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) team in 1998, following numerous positions at various prestigious institutions in the Midwest, including the University of Wisconsin and Evanston Northwestern Hospital. She has presented several abstracts and presentations at national nutrition and oncology conferences on the role of nutrition in oncology care, particularly emphasizing the CTCA model of care.
Lammersfeld serves as Director of Nutrition at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. Here, she has led the nutrition team in the publication of several research articles in peer-reviewed nutrition journals, reinforcing the connection between nutrition and outcomes. She has also attained specialty certification in nutrition support.
In January 2007, Lammersfeld was also appointed to the position of National Director of Nutrition to assist CTCA in coordinating nutritional services across the regional centers.
