Cutting-edge Treatment for Adults Fighting Hematologic Cancer

Bradford Tan at Midwestern Regional Medical Center

At CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center, we treat patients who have aggressive hematologic disease (e.g., high grade lymphomas, acute leukemias), as well as those fighting slow-growing malignancies (e.g., chronic myelogenous leukemia). Furthermore, we have extensive experience in treating all stages of hematologic disease, including advanced stage disease.

Dr. Redei uses leading treatment protocols when treating his patients. However, he also thinks “outside the box” and tries different possibilities to provide each of his patients with truly individualized care.

A bone marrow biopsy is one diagnostic exam Dr. Redei uses to help customize some of his patients’ treatments to their specific needs. For this minor surgical procedure, Dr. Redei retrieves a small sample of the fluid and cells inside a patient’s bone (i.e., the bone marrow). Then, pathologist Dr. Bradford Tan (pictured) examines the sample under a microscope to determine the condition of the patient’s blood cells and to see if the cancer has spread to his or her bone marrow. This critical information allows Dr. Redei to have a better idea of which treatments may be most effective.

“We are constantly looking for the best therapy for treating each patient and his or her particular disease,” says Dr. Redei. “We monitor each patient’s treatment to see how he or she is responding to the treatment. Depending on how the patient responds, we may modify the treatment to find the one that optimizes that patient’s chances for eliminating the disease.”
