Cell Therapy for Hematologic Malignancies
In some cases, a stem cell transplant may not be the best option. Yet, Dr. Redei says there are other treatments for hematologic malignancies we may be able to offer, such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Dr. Redei notes as an example, “We offer aggressive and creative chemotherapy regimes, oftentimes without having to performing a transplant.”
Chemotherapy
Dr. Redei may recommend chemotherapy to attack fast-growing tumor cells. Chemotherapy drugs can attack your cancer cells and prevent the cancer from spreading or returning.
Immunotherapy
This therapy uses your immune system to help fight cancer. Immunotherapy drugs target cancer cells and prevent them from spreading. Immunotherapy also enhances your body’s ability to repair or replace normal cells damaged or destroyed by other cancer treatments.
Oftentimes, an immunotherapy is used in combination with chemotherapy. For instance, Dr. Redei may use Rituxan®, an immunotherapy that targets B-cells, in combination with CHOP chemotherapy (a regime of a combination of chemotherapy drugs) to treat diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
